Welcome to the Budo Kenyu Kai!
The Budo Kenyu Kai (german: Budo Studien Kreis) is a community founded by Kyoshi Werner Lind for the purpose of studying and researching the classical martial arts. In the Budo Kenyu Kai the martial arts are practiced exclusively as Budo and not as sport. They are taught as a way of personality development, health maintenance and self-defense. Anyone who shares these goals can become a member.
Werner Lind (born 30.10.1950, † 21.12.2014) founded the Budo Kenyu Kai in 1990 to expand and share his own studies on traditional karate. Over the years, numerous book and instructional video publications have been produced, which at that time offered new insights into karate, originally developed for self-defense.
He expanded his Shotokan Karate, which consisted mainly of punch and kick techniques (Atemi waza) with close distance exercises such as hook hands (Kakie), repeat drills (Renzoku), throws, levers, fixing techniques, weapons (Kobudo) and much more. His goal was to establish Kata for all students of the BSK as a form of self-defense, spiritual training and health maintenance.
